Bill’s dad never let go.
For over 50 years he was a practicing physician. It was his purpose; his mission; his identity. The thought of letting it go crushed him.
When he retired, his identity evaporated. While everyone still called him “Doc” – he was no longer ‘doctoring’.
He loved being a doctor. When he was no longer that, he was lost. He had no desire to figure out who he was beyond it. He shut down; in every way you can imagine.
Don’t be like dad.
Let it go. Face the great unknown boldly.
Bring your experience with you. Leverage it for your future.
Build your network. Learn. Do the work.
It may not always be easy.
Some days may be more fun than others but letting go a bit and leveraging your past for future success sure makes the journey better!
